The Velvet Principle

Brief: Wayfinding, Naming Strategy and Concept Design

Sector: Mixed Use Residential and Offices

Client: Almacantar

Designed by internationally renowned architects Rafael Vinoly, Marble Arch Place is a mixed use residential, office, retail and cinema scheme. Located opposite the Marble Arch monument and overlooking Hyde Park, the design quality across all disciplines needed to reflect the prestigious address.

The first task was to develop the naming, numbering and address strategy for the buildings, retail units and apartments for submission to the local planning department.

Information and design principles were then established for the office floors and apartment building.  This strategy had to encompass two basement floors that include a mix of parking, resident amenity and tenant spaces.

The design brief called for a series of distinct design concepts that were appropriate to the interior finishes and materials palette in each of the different use spaces. Within the basement this required a different feel between the operational areas and resident’s amenity.
